Explore the Art of Icon Painting in Depth!

Do you want to bring the magic of Byzantine art to life through your own hands?

We invite you to a unique icon painting seminar, where you'll learn the secrets and techniques of creating sacred icons, whether you're just starting out or looking to enhance your skills!

In this seminar:
• For beginners: You'll get acquainted with the traditional materials and techniques that have been used for centuries by the great masters of Byzantine icon painting. You'll experiment with natural colors and learn how to create vibrant, timeless images. No prior experience is required—just a love for art and history!
• For advanced students: You'll discover advanced techniques and styles that will help you develop your skills and create more expressive and unique images. You'll delve deeper into the spiritual dimension of the art and learn how to combine tradition with your own creative expression.

All participants will have the opportunity to follow step-by-step the process of creating a Byzantine icon:

1. Preparing the wooden surface using the traditional hot method. The "hot method" refers to using heated materials, mainly glue, to prepare the surface that will receive the icon.
2. Applying the base layer (gesso) for a perfectly smooth and stable foundation.
3. Transferring the design onto the prepared surface.
4. Applying gold leaf to create an impressive glow in the background and halos.
5. Painting the icon using natural materials, following traditional techniques.
6. Adding details to highlight the features and symbols.
7. Applying a protective varnish to ensure the long-term preservation of the icon.

All participants will have the opportunity to work with authentic materials, such as natural pigments and gold leaf, and experience the joy of creation in an inspiring environment. You'll collaborate with other passionate icon painters, exchanging ideas and experiences.

Let your creativity flourish, whether you're taking your first steps or looking to reignite your passion for the art. Join us and begin or continue your artistic journey into the magical world of Byzantine icon painting!
Reserve your spot today and be part of this unique experience!

This seminar will be held in English.

Our policies & style, NJORD OF GREECE

Recognizing the need for dedicated tours on Rhodes focusing on high quality and unique experiences, a team were formed of highly skilled and quality conscious individuals.

All our courses/tours are led by an expert licensed guide and are concerned with some aspect of culture or learning – the visual arts, music, history, and gastronomy.

Our tours are planned with immense care, with consideration being given to a host of factors such as opening hours, journey times and the availability of refreshments. The tours will therefore operate much as they are described in the programme.

However, sometimes situations arise such as closure of a building for restoration or a change of flight time which necessitate alterations to the itinerary. We would do our best to re plan the tour to minimise adverse impact of changes.

-Please do not hesitate to contact the organizer Ann-Sofi Sydholm (Njord Of Greece), for further questions, by phone, +358 50 5949 737 or by email to contact@njordofgreece.com
